Abdul-Kareem
MY PROCESS |
My name is Abdul-Kareem Nahlawi and I am a senior attending Michigan Islamic Academy. My birthplace is Ypsilanti, MI. where I have been living my whole life. My nationality, however, is Syrian. I have many hobbies of which are: soccer, basketball, running, and many other things. Syria is currently going through a civil war and many innocent men, women, and children are being killed by the hundreds and thousands every day. A large portion of the Syrians are also fleeing the country and going to wherever they can, such as America. I chose my project because I want to help the Syrians and do whatever I can.
|
For my project, I am planning on collaborating with an organization called USCRI (US Committee for Refugees and Immigrants) to host an event to inform people of what is going on and how we can help. I visited Syria every summer for four years and I enjoyed my time in such a beautiful place. Seeing all these innocent people going through this tragedy with barely any help makes me feel guilty. Guilty that all of us people who are alive and well are standing by and doing nothing while all these people getting killed. I feel the need to do something to help and make a change.
